You may have a tree like this in your yard and not even realize it’s good for food! Pindo palms are quite common along the Emerald Coast. Every summer they produce stalks loaded with fruit. This fruit, when ripe is orange and round, about the size of a cherry with a seed in the middle about the size of a cherry pit. You can eat the skin and the flesh, which is soft and juicy. I think it tastes a little like a mango.  If you don’t cut the stalk off the tree and do something with the fruit before it falls on the ground, it will rot, cause a strong odor and attract wasps and other insects that feed on the rotting fruit.
